Rhythm and Funk

Rhythm: a strong, regular, repeated pattern, a flow, a cadence, tempo, pattern, pace, exact repetition

Have you ever been in a funk?  One of those places where nothing seems to be all that bad, but you feel in a down beat, and you just can’t shake it.  I’ve heard from several of you recently and while the word “funk” wasn’t always used, but it has been a common sentiment.

Being in a funk can be caused by any number of things, but the market and our current environment is certainly a contributing factor.  We’ve all been running so fast for so long that the change in tempo and rhythm can make things just feel off.  I find that being in a funk is often closely connected to two things - rhythm and purpose, and therefore you can find your way out of the funk by focusing your energy in those two areas.

Rhythm:

From our heartbeats to our sleep patterns rhythm is such a powerful driver of our physical being that this is usually where I start.  When I’m trying to get things back on track I first question two thing…. Has my rhythm been droning on for too long with the same predictable pattern or has my routine been thrown off and do I need to focus on building a repeatable cadence and pace? Do I need to speed up or do I need to slow down?  Do I need to change my surroundings and focus on something new?  Below are a few areas you should consider when you are working on your life rhythm.  Think about each of these areas do I need to speed up, slow down or interrupt the pattern of any of these areas?  Challenging and changing your patterns and pace in one or two of these areas can make a world of difference.  Take control of your rhythm so it doesn’t take control of you.

  2. Gratitude rhythm

  3. Team rhythm

Purpose:

The next thing I check in on is purpose.  If you lose sight of or get too far from your purpose (your why) it can feel like you have lost your way.  Below are a few places to help you check in with your why.  Even taking a few moments to reconnect with your why… the thing that gets you out of bed in the morning can help push you out of a funk.  If you are not clear on your why.. start with number 3 😊
