Create a Parade

I came across a story this week that really resonated with me. For those of you that have children (or can remember being one 🙂), the phrase "I’m bored" comes up quite often. Bob Goff https://www.bobgoff.com, who is a far from ordinary dad, received this phrase from his children one boring New Year’s Day. But in true Bob Goff fashion, he handled it a little differently. He agreed that New Year’s Day was in fact a very boring day and proposed they do something about it. So, he sat down with his children and brainstormed a list of all the things they could do to make the day not boring. His children threw out ideas like buying a pony or building a rocket ship. And then the idea came up to have a parade. Bob, of course, loved the idea, and he and his children started working on how to pull off a parade. They created costume ideas, planned a cookout, and went around the neighborhood knocking on doors telling people they were hosting a parade, but it had one rule - everyone could participate in the parade, but no one was allowed to watch. To this day, the parade is a tradition in San Diego. Bob and his children willed a fun New Year’s into existence out of thin air.

It’s such a powerful reminder that we will find what we look for and create what we focus on. You can “will” just about anything into existence. What situation or circumstance do you need to change? What area in your life needs adjustment? You’re not a passenger. Don’t be an observer, get off the curb and create your parade!
