Try Streaking

As we break into February, speeding right past dry January and heading into second quarter, it’s the perfect time to take stock and check-in on our progress.   How are we doing on our goals for 2024? Are we performing like a fine-tuned Formula 1 race car or more like a Honda Civic? (And yes, for all you F1 fans, I am rethinking my Ferrari Fan choice)

2024 is going to be an outstanding year. But your choices will be what will make it great. So, if need a quick tune up, here are six things you can do to guarantee your way to “Do More in 24”! 😊 (I know cheesy, but it works)

1.     Audit your list - Make sure you are emotionally connected to your goals. If it’s a “should” and not a “want to” … nix it and find another one.

2.     Chunk them down - create 12-week goals or small and medium sized goals that will get you to the bigger goal. Using these smaller milestones to get you closer to your goals will move the needle and give you some quick wins that will create momentum. 12 months is a long time, and you can easily lose track of what you need to do or get discouraged along the way. Eat the elephant one bite at a time.

3.     Make it Laughable - Do the smallest amount of what’s possible and take tiny actions forward. What is a laughably simple, small action that you can do daily to make sure you achieve your goals. ex: if your goal is to get in better shape your laughably simple goal could be to walk 15 min a day. Quick wins compound over time and build momentum. As this routine takes route you can build it up to faster or longer. Big heavy actions are easy to quit; laughably simple goals are easy to make happen. You don’t have to start by running 5 miles a day or lifting 1000 pounds work up to it.

4.     Do the 1st step- What’s the very next thing you can do today to accomplish your goal. Can you do that now? How about tomorrow? Ask this question daily.

5.     Try Streaking- Create daily laughably small actions that can be done consistently and tracked consistently to reach your goals. Start today then don’t break the streak. It’s not about the activity it’s about the consistency. Streaking is about putting forward a conscious effort to do something that does not come natural to you. 6.     Create a scorecard- Create a visual record and track your progress. Track your laughably simple actions on one of these trackers. If you can’t see it, you won’t be it. Here’s a digital app that can help https://apps.apple.com/us/app/streaks/id963034692

Videos to watch

I use my bullet journal all the time it really helps bring clarity. This video has some great process tips on how to make your notebook time more productive.

Journaling system:

V-O-M-I-T (vomit journaling) I hate the name but it’s worth a watch 🙂

V- vent

O- obligations (and prioritization)

M- mindset

I- ideate

T- trajectory

My Top takeaways

  1. Help reframe your thinking- On hard days and when facing really bad things ask the question “how is this the best thing that ever happened to you?”

  2. Do the tasks first that will make everything else go faster

  3. Priority split system:

What is the smallest or minimum thing I need to get done today? list 3 tasks (BARE minimum, quick wins, and minimum musts) - the just about laughable goals for the day

If I’m killing it, and I have extra time or really in the mood what can I do. List 3 tasks (the middle goals) - the things that move the needle but take longer

  4. Think about the inverse- ask yourself the opposite of what you are trying to solve to make the answer clearer
